The University of Massachusetts Boston is an affirmative action/equal opportunity institution and prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, sex, age, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, disability, or veteran status in its employment; in the recruitment, admission, and treatment of students; and in its policies and programs, as required by federal and state laws and regulations. All inquiries regarding Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972 and/or Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 may be directed to the Director of Affirmative Action, University of Massachusetts Boston, 100 Morrissey Blvd, Boston, MA 02125-3393, 617.287.5180. The University of Massachusetts Boston is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Inc., a non-governmental, nationally recognized organization whose affiliated institutions include elementary schools through collegiate institutions offering postgraduate instruction.

Accreditation by the New England Association indicates that the institution meets or exceeds criteria for the assessment of institutional quality periodically applied through a peer group review process. An accredited school or college is one that has available the necessary resources to achieve its stated purposes through appropriate educational programs, is substantially doing so, and gives reasonable evidence that it will continue to do so in the foreseeable future. Institutional integrity is also addressed through accreditation.

Accreditation by the New England Association is not partial but applies to the institution as a whole. As such, it is not a guarantee of the quality of every course or program offered, or the competence of individual graduates. Rather, it provides reasonable assurance about staff of the school or college. Individuals may also contact the Association at this address: Commission on Institutions of Higher Education, New England Association of Schools and Colleges, 209 Burlington Road, Bedford, MA 01730-1433, 781.271.0022.
