ENGL 668 Perspectives on Composition: History, Theory, Pedagogy This course is designed as an introduction to the field of composition studies for students in the composition and literature concentrations alike. We will investigate the rise of English as a discipline in the nineteenth century with a focus on why writing instruction became concentrated in the freshman year. Understanding this history and politics will put us in the position of developing an informed critique of freshman question: what are the alternatives?
Prerequisite(s): Graduate students in ENGL only
