PUBHTH 360 Introduction to Statistical Computing

This course provides an introduction to statistical computing, using one of the common statistical software programs used in Public Health practice such as SAS or Stata. The course covers both programming concepts and statistical computing concepts therefore equipping students with hands-on experience with real data from a wide variety of public health applications. This course provides students with the ability to read, modify and write code to prepare them to formulate questions of interest, choose appropriate statistical techniques, verify the assumptions behind the techniques, draw proper conclusions from the analysis, and communicate the results. This course is a prerequisite for other courses in which statistical analysis of data is required. Assignments will emphasize all aspects from data acquisition, cleaning, and apply the scientific method: stating the null and alternative hypothesis, statistical analysis, presentation, and interpretation.
