Description: This course focuses on education as an institution with emphasis on the U.S. We will study the structural features of different American schools and colleges and the relevance of these features to the economy. We will study the structural features of different American schools and colleges and their relevance to the economy as well as to class-based, racialized, and gendered experiences in schools. Possible additional topics include the privatization of education and charter schools, inequality in access to education, and schools as sites for furthering social justice.
