Description:
This course offers an introduction to the study and practice of public history through one of its most beloved forms in Boston: the guided tour. We will use urban heritage tours to explore the theory and practice of public history ore broadly and to examine the state the field. We will explore the intersection of public history and public memory and analyze the interplay between identity, politics, and place in Boston and beyond. Students will gain content knowledge about Boston’s urban and working-class history and will have the opportunity to create their own contributions to the local historical landscape.
