Conflict Resolution, MA

The master’s program can be completed in two years of full-time study, or three to four years of part-time study.

The MA program comprises 36 credit hours and offers three options for completing the capstone requirements: completing and defending a master’s thesis, completing a master’s project, or participating in an intensive integrative seminar.

Degree Requirements

Master’s Thesis Option

Master’s Thesis Electives

An additional 21 credits (7 courses) of electives are also required. Students may choose

  • A minimum of 12 credits (4 courses) from within conflict resolution
  • A maximum of 9 credits (3 courses) from other fields

Master’s Project Option

Master’s Project Electives

 An additional 21 credits (7 courses) of electives are also required. Students may choose

  • A minimum of 12 credits (4 courses) from within conflict resolution
  • A maximum of 9 credits (3 courses) from other fields

Integrative Seminar Option

Integrative Seminar Electives

An additional 27 credits (9 courses) of electives are also required. Students may choose

  • A minimum of 15 credits (5 courses) from within conflict resolution
  • A maximum of 12 credits (4 courses) from other fields

Concentrations in Organizational Conflict or International Conflict

Master’s students may earn their degree with a formal concentration in either organizational conflict or international conflict by taking a minimum of three courses in these subject areas, chosen in consultation with an academic advisor. These concentrations can be composed of courses both from within the conflict resolution program and from other departments.

Conflict Resolution Colloquium Series

Master’s students are required to attend a total of 10 colloquia over the course of their enrollment in the master’s degree program. Colloquia are offered approximately monthly, for a total of 7 to 8 each academic year.

  2. Demonstrated writing skills
  3. Three letters of recommendation, preferably from academic sources
  4. Written essays, responsive to questions accessible on the Conflict Resolution home page.
