Degree Requirements


Students must satisfactorily complete, through waiver or coursework, 15 courses, or 45 credits, including satisfying the mathematics requirement, to receive the MSF degree. Credits may be earned by successfully completing graduate courses at UMass Boston, by the transfer of up to six graduate credits from another university, or by waiver based on prior academic work. A minimumof 10 courses must be completed, with a minimum of 8 MSF courses must be completed at UMass Boston. Students without sufficient previous preparation to meet the mathematics requirement must complete MBAMS 600 Mathematical Analysis for Managers  as one of their first three courses. The program offers an investment specialization with additional course requirements. The degree must be completed within five (5) years of the date of entry.

Admission Requirements


Admission to the program is very competitive, and students are judged in relation to other applicants that semester. Grade point averages and GMAT ranges will be published each semester and distributed at MSF Information Sessions for the use of applicants in preparing for admission.

The Master of Science in Finance (MSF) Admissions Committee will recommend admission for applicants who show evidence of high promise of success in the MSF program. Candidates are evaluated on the basis of their:

  1. Undergraduate and any previous graduate performance
  2. Professional work experience
  3. GMAT scores or GRE scores
  4. Application essays
  5. Recommendations
