Education: Early Childhood, MEd without Licensure

Community Professional Track

The Early Childhood (ECHD) graduate teacher education program non-licensure is a 36 credit program that consists of 12 required courses. The program is geared to early education and care practitioners with experience in PreK-5 settings. Non-licensure students need to complete one of the following three tests for admissions:

Communication and Literacy MTEL
GRE
MAT.

International applicants need to submit TOEFL scores per the university policy.

Required Courses

ECHD 601 Foundational Understandings of Early Childhood/Early Intervention and Special Education
ECHD 611 Development and Characteristics of All Young Learners Including Those with Special Needs.
ECHD 640 Language Development and Literacy in Early Childhood/Early Intervention
ECHD 690 Planning Curriculum in Early Childhood
(Students may substitute an elective for ECHD 690, if desired.)
EDC G 646 Understanding Reading: Principles and Practices
ECHD 641 Science and Mathematics Instruction for All Young Children
ECHD 622 Observing, Documenting and Assessing in Early Childhood/Early Intervention
ECHD 621 Creating Effective Learning Environments and Fostering Positive Social Interactions
ECHD 692 Teacher Inquiry/Capstone Portfolio
EDC G 606 Sociocultural Foundations of Education

Elective Course (3 credits)

In addition to the required courses, students must take one elective.

Students may make other substitutions within the community professional track with permission of the program director.
