Developed and awarded by UMass Boston, this master of arts degree in Conflict Resolution is an experiential program in which students live, work, observe and collaborate with Jewish and Palestinian residents and scholars in the only community around the world where Palestinians and Jews live together in equality and peace, Wahat al-Salaam/Neve Shalom [Oasis of Peace] in Israel. This residential master’s degree provides a strong basis in conflict theory and can be completed in two calendar years.

Students will follow the same curriculum offered in the University of Massachusetts Boston’s Master of Arts in Conflict Resolution, with electives that focus on the rich history of Jews and Palestinians living together in harmony.

An additional 21 credits (7 courses) of electives are also required. Students may choose:

A minimum of 12 credits (4 courses) from within conflict resolution
A maximum of 9 credits (3 courses) from other fields

Master’s Project Option

An additional 21 credits (7 courses) of electives are also required. Students may choose:

A minimum of 12 credits (4 courses) from within conflict resolution
A maximum of 9 credits (3 courses) from other fields

Integrative Seminar Option

Integrative Seminar Electives

An additional 27 credits (9 courses) of electives are also required. Students may choose:

A minimum of 15 credits (5 courses) from within conflict resolution
A maximum of 12 credits (4 courses) from other fields

Concentrations in Organizational Conflict or International Conflict

Master’s students may earn their degree with a formal concentration in either organizational conflict or international conflict by taking a minimum of three courses in these subject areas, chosen in consultation with an academic advisor. These concentrations can be composed of courses both from within the conflict resolution program and from other departments.

Conflict Resolution Colloquium Series

Master’s students are required to attend a total of 10 colloquia over the course of their enrollment in the master’s degree program. Colloquia are offered approximately monthly, for a total of 7 to 8 each academic year.

Tuition and Fees

For students living in Israel, tuition will be $5,000 per year.
For all other students, tuition will be $16,000 per year.

Tuition will cover all instruction, classrooms, library facilities, computer connections, student counseling/support, and recreational facilities. The tuition and fees do not cover airfare to Israel or return flights to the United States, ground transportation, housing, meals, books, or other school supplies.
