Economics Major (BA) - Fall 2018

NOTE: This version of the program is for economics majors with a major catalog term of Fall 2018. Students admitted or declaring the major after September 11, 2018 should refer to Economics Major (BA) - Spring 2019 .

Program Declaration


At time of admission to the University or completion of a Major, Minor, Concentration Declaration Form  or Inter-College Transfer Form . Current students seeking to declare the major must first complete MATH 115  or equivalent course or place into MATH 129 /MATH 130 .

Degree Requirements


If this is the student’s only or primary major, the degree requirements below must be completed for graduation. See graduation requirements  for more information.

  

  

Major Requirements


Complete 33 credits from 11 courses including five core courses, five electives, and one capstone.

Grade: A minimum grade of C- is required for the five core courses
GPA: A minimum GPA of 2.0 is required for all major courses.
Pass/fail: No courses used for the core courses or capstone requirements may be taken pass/fail.
Residency: At least six courses for the major, including the capstone, must be completed at UMass Boston.

Course Requirements


Core Courses (15 Credits)


No course with a grade below C- may be applied toward this requirement.

Electives (15 Credits)


Complete five ECON electives from the list below. At least one course must be in the field elective category. At least two courses must be in the alternative approach elective category. Two additional electives must be at the 300-level or higher and may be from either category or no category.

Capstone (3 Credits)


Take one additional economics course at the 400-level from the list of electives above to be counted as the capstone. This course may not be taken pass/fail.
