Degree Requirements

Major Requirements


Complete a minimum of 64 credits from 20 courses including five required lower-level math courses, five required upper-level math courses, one required computer science course, two required physics courses, three advanced mathematics electives, three science electives, and one capstone.

GPA: A minimum GPA of 2.0 is required for all major courses.
Pass/fail: No courses taken pass/fail may be applied toward the major.
Residency: At least four mathematics courses at the 300-level or higher must be completed at UMass Boston.

Required Lower-Level Mathematics Courses (18 Credits)


Required Computer Science Course (3 to 4 Credits)


Required Physics Courses (8 Credits)


Advanced Mathematics Electives (9 Credits)


Take three additional mathematics courses at the 300-level or higher.

Science Electives (8 to 12 Credits)


Take three science courses outside of mathematics and computer science. These courses must be required for majors in their respective departments. At least one course must be a lab.

Capstone (3 Credits)
