Admission Requirements


Application deadline: 

  • Priority: March 15 (for assistantship)
  • Accelerated BA/MA: April 1
  • Final: June 1

In addition to the criteria below, applicants must meet general graduate admission requirements .

Applicants must:

  • Submit official transcripts from each college or university you attended, even if you were not awarded a degree.
  • Have an official GRE score report that’s less than five years old and sent directly to UMass Boston. Unofficial test score reports are not acceptable. UMass Boston’s institution code is 3924.
    • The GRE is not required for UMass Boston undergraduates applying for the Accelerated Master’s Program.
  • Submit two letters of recommendation from people familiar with your academic abilities.
  • Submit your résumé/curriculum vitae.
  • Submit a non-refundable fee of $60 for domestic applicants and $100 for international applicants. This fee cannot be waived or deferred.
  • A writing sample is optional.
  • Write a personal statement of your reasons for wishing to attend graduate school in international relations (300 words).
  • Write an essay on your specific interests and what kind of work you would like to after completing the master’s program in international relations (1200 words).
