About the Program

The American Studies master’s program brings together cultural and social history, media and popular culture, literary and cultural studies with critical race and ethnic studies, feminist studies, and queer studies. Our longstanding commitment to the study of power is energized by emerging formations in the field - from hemispheric and postcolonial frames to sound studies and critical leisure studies. Our program is also one of the few free-standing M.A. programs in American Studies at a public research university. We are therefore able to provide our students with a strong intellectual foundation and the opportunity to work with some of the leading scholars in the field at a more reasonable cost than private institutions.
