The English Language Development graduate certificate program addresses a gap in the professional development opportunities available for teachers of English Learners by providing high-quality training for teachers in the variety of settings in which EL students are instructed. The Department of Applied Linguistics will provide five courses in the English Language Development Graduate Certificate (ELD) that meet the requirements for a) in- service teachers to add an Initial License in ESL and gain the knowledge to teach English learners; b) in-service teachers holding an initial License in ESL to apply for Professional Licensure in ESL; c) teachers working with English Learners to fine tune their theory and practice
The certificate coursework builds on a strengths-based approach to language teaching, offering a rich and robust learning experience to students through coursework and mentoring.
