Description: This course examines the contributions made by anthropology to the analysis of development in the Third World. It assesses two contrasting perspectives: ‘development anthropology’, which focuses on the dynamics of working on practical projects, and the `anthropology of development’ which makes a series of critiques of development theory and practice. Topics include planning and policy; indigenous traditional knowledge, aid, health, and sustainable development.
Enrollment Requirements: Prerequisite: ANTH 100 or ANTH 103 or ANTH 106
