Description: This is a course about the artistic aspects of literature. Students consider the nature of art-what it is, what it does, why it matters. The course analyzes a variety of works drawn from three genres-the short story, poetry, and drama. Topics include censorship, public funding for the arts, and contemporary critical theory.

Enrollment Requirements: Degree students only with fewer than 30 credits when they entered UMass Boston.
Students may complete only one 100G course (First Year Seminar).
