PSYDBS 754 - Neurobiology of Addiction 3 Credit(s)
Description: This course examines molecular and cell biology, genetic, and systems approaches to the study of addiction. It begins with an overview of the pharmacological actions of drugs of abuse, neural substrates of drug reward and craving, molecular mechanisms of drug-induced neuroplasticity, genetics, and their involvement in tolerance, sensitization, dependence and addictive behavior. This will include theories of addiction, brain circuits mediating reward and motivation, invertebrate and vertebrate models of addiction, neurotransmitters and signaling pathways targeted by drugs of abuse, and pharmacotherapy of substance use disorders.
