EHS 360 - Wellness Coaching Techniques 3 Credit(s) | Lecture | Course can be counted for credit once
Description: The overarching aim of this course is to familiarize the student with evidence-based counseling strategies that can be used to improve healthy lifestyle habits through theory-based health behavior change programs. Students will learn how to take the theories and strategies from Health Behavior Change, with a particular emphasis on the transtheoretical model, social cognitive theory, cognitive and behavioral strategies, and relapse prevention, and apply them during one-on-one counseling sessions. This course focuses on a client-centered approach to counseling which includes learning and practicing motivational interviewing techniques. A variety of experiential activities will be completed to assist students in becoming confident and effective behavior change counselors. The course has particular relevance to students who plan to be exercise specialists, nutritionists, health educators, physical therapists, physical assistants, nurses, psychologists and other health care professionals.
Enrollment Requirements: Prerequisite: EHS 345 with a grade of C or higher
