ENGL 440 - History of the English Language 3 Credit(s) | Lecture | Course can be counted for credit once
Description: Where did English come from? How have historical events influenced change in the language? Should change today be resisted or accepted? Who or what determines what is “correct”? Participants learn how to analyze and transcribe speech sounds, use traditional grammar to understand grammatical change, and work with specialized dictionaries that help in analyzing short texts from various periods of English.
Enrollment Requirements: Prerequisite: ENGL 200 or ENGL 201 or ENGL 202
