Description: A study of the theories of literacy, in its relation to human thinking and to social uses and contexts; and of the practice of literacy, in the teaching, learning, and use of literate behaviors in contemporary American society. The course links the active investigation of literacy issues with related readings, and draws implications for the teaching of reading and writing and for the study of literature.
Enrollment Requirements: Prerequisite: ENGL 200 or ENGL 201 or ENGL 202
