ENGL 489 - Terrorism and the Novel 3 Credit(s) | Lecture | Course can be counted for credit once
Description: Our primary aim in this course is to examine the diversity of ways in which terrorism has been represented in narrative fiction. Topics include: Victorian anarchism, the “Troubles” in Northern Ireland, international responses to 9/11, the collisions between postmodernism and terrorism. This course requires extensive reading in political, historical, and theoretical materials. We will use these materials to pose more general literary questions: How have modern writers engaged questions of political violence? What forms of communication does terrorism authorize and foreclose?
