Description: An intensive study of selected themes in African history; although the approach is thematic, attention is given to essential chronology and to regional differences. Topics, which vary from semester to semester, include African economic history; pan-Africanism and nationalism; post-colonial Africa: its prospects, developments, and crises; religion in Africa; and African urban history.
