Description: This course explores the history and contemporary role of race and racism in sporting spaces. Significant sporting events along with political and sociocultural shifts in society will be examined using race-based theoretical frameworks. Students will identify the ways in which and specific conditions when sport reinforces, resists, and/or reflects dominant racial ideologies.
