Description: This course addresses the major movements and issues of modern European history, including the Enlightenment, the age of revolutions, industrialization, imperialism, nationalism, global wars, clashes of political systems, and decolonization, among others. It examines how people of different races, classes, and genders in Europe have both been subject to and challenged the dominant systems of their eras. During the last three centuries, Europe has influenced people in all parts of the world. By studying modern Europe we therefore come to understand a great deal about the problems and potential of 21st century society.
