Description: This course explores how the historical evolution and commercial orientation of mass communications media have helped shape the depiction of women and gender in advertising, entertainment, and news. Students learn to analyze visual imagery for its conceptual and emotional messages; to distinguish stereotypes from more complex characterizations in TV fictions; and to monitor the representations of women and gender in the print and broadcast news.
