Description: How does our brain allow for higher level mental processes, such as our ability to perceive, act, and think? This course will provide a basic overview of theories, methods, and empirical evidence in cognitive neuroscience, where we explore how cognitive abilities arise from neural activity. Topics covered will include mechanisms of sensory perception, attention, learning and memory, executive function, decision making, language, and emotional processing. We will also talk about brain plasticity, and how abnormal brain function contributes to disease.
