Description: This course is an inquiry into the origin and evolution of patterns of biological diversity. It begins with an overview of the biogeochemical history of the Earth, theories of origin of life, diversification of metazoans during the Panerozoic, and the nature and causes of periodic mass extinction events. Biological diversity is considered at molecular, population, and community levels.
Course Note This course counts toward the required core in the Environmental Sciences/Environmental Biology PhD track.
Enrollment Requirements: Pre-requisite = Graduate degree student in Biology or permission.
