INTR-D 601 - Integrative Biosciences Graduate Program Seminar

2 Credit(s) | Lecture | Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory
Repeatable for credit - total credits: 6 / total completions: 3

The goal of this course is to introduce the students to the theory and practice of interdisciplinary research in the areas of biochemistry, biophysics, and bioinformatics. The course will consist of two main components; in the first half of the course, participating IBGP faculty will describe their research projects. IBGP faculty laboratories can also be represented by postdoctoral fellows or advanced graduate students. Each faculty presentation will be followed by a class discussion of a paper from that laboratory that includes an interdisciplinary approach and/or a collaboration between laboratories working in different disciplines. In the second half of the course, each student will present a paper on an interdisciplinary topic. Throughout the course, emphasis will be on the collaborative and interdisciplinary nature of research in the biosciences.

Course Note
This course is required for first-year PhD students admitted to the Integrative Biosciences Graduate Program (IBGP).
