ENGL 608 Introduction to Critical and Research Methods This course introduces the beginning graduate student to research strategies, provides an introduction to bibliographic, textual, and a range of critical methods, contrasting, for instance, the historical method with new historicism. The aim is to explore the kinds of interpretations each critical method enables and limits. This course also explores literature, literary scholarship, and teaching as material practices and explores the consequences of different ways of conceiving of those practices. (Course offered in the fall only.)
