Description: This course explores the political economy of development within Africa since independence. It provides an overview of major economic development debates in post-colonial Africa. Particular attention will be given to the economic and political legacies of colonialism, agrarian change, industrialization, resource mobilization, trade diversification, institutional reforms, aid, debt & capital flight, violence and state capacity. This course seeks to combine theoretical debates with country case studies as a way to illustrate the diversity of experiences within the African continent.
Enrollment Requirements: Prerequisites: ECON 101 and ECON 102
