Description: This course is an introduction to Chinese literature and culture before 1900, with a particular emphasis on the ways in which fiction, poetry, letters, diaries, plays, and essays relate to other types of cultural production, including art, ritual, philosophy, politics, discourses of nation and ethnicity, and “everyday life.”
